医学遗传学系创建于1995年，承担医学遗传学的教学与科研工作。现有在编教师8名，其中2名教授，4名副教授，1名讲师，1名高级实验师。

教学工作包括讲授《医学遗传学》课程和遗传咨询培训，面向临床医学五年制、七年制及八年制学生及放射医学、预防医学、信息管理、医法、口腔、药学、护理等各专业。教学轨道有本科教育、硕士教育、成人教育和留学生教育等。

科研工作主要集中于常见代谢疾病的遗传关联研究、生物信息学算法的研发、喉癌的杂合性缺失研究、抑癌基因的多态性与头颈部肿瘤的联系、糖尿病发生的分子机制的研究、中草药的作用机制的研究等。

本学系有1名博士生导师和5名硕士导师，曾培育了五十多名研究生，承担了多项国家级、省级等部门资助的科研课题，并获得了多项遗传毒理学及肿瘤、糖尿病的遗传机理研究等成果，在国内外发表了数百篇学术论文。

The department of Medical Genetics was founded in 1995, there is presently 8 faculty members, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 1 engineer. The department is responsible for both teaching and researching.

Much emphasis of our teaching work has been laid on the development of medical genetics education and genetic counseling. The students come from many majors such as clinical medicine (of five-year, seven-year and eight-year programs), radioactive medicine, preventive medicine, information management and information system (medical information management), medical law, stomatological medicine, pharmacology, nursing and multi-track adult education.

The research projects are focused on the association studies of human common metabolic diseases, bioinformatics tools development, loss of heterozygosity in laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas, the genetic association between anti-oncogene polymorphisms and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, the molecular mechanism of diabetes mellitus and the mechanism of action and the research progress of the traditional Chinese medicine.

One PHD advisor and 5 master advisors are currently present in our department, who have finished training 50 postgraduate students. The department has made a large number of achievements in research. These faculty members have undertaken many research projects sponsored by provincial, national governments, and enterprises. These projects resulted in over one hundred of scientific publications and patents.
